One of the biggest reasons these searches go wrong is misidentification. In high-traffic rumor cycles, images get reposted with new labels, and the same “evidence” gets recycled across unrelated claims about different people.
Another issue is synthetic or heavily edited media. Modern tools can create convincing facial swaps, apply misleading crops, or alter brightness and color so that comparisons become impossible. That means even screenshots that look “clear” may still be manipulated or taken out of context.
If you’re trying to judge credibility, avoid relying on visual impressions alone. Instead, check whether the claim is supported by independent reporting, whether the same content is consistently attributed across credible sources, and whether there’s any explanation of how the material was obtained and verified.
