In the grand adventure of childhood, the Year 6 SATs are just one tiny hill on a long, winding road. They are not Everest. They don’t predict university, careers, or happiness. They tell us a little about how a child’s brain is working right now, at age ten or eleven.
So, when the scores arrive, read them with a smile. Then put them in a drawer. And take your child out for an ice cream. They’ve earned it. And so have you, for being the steady, warm presence that matters far more than any scaled score ever will.
