Let’s not forget the trauma of the 2010 final, which kicked off at 7:30pm UK time – fine for a weeknight actually. But the 1994 final? 6:30pm – that’s almost respectable. The real horror? Ah, but here’s the sneaky catch. If the final is in Qatar, it’s always a Sunday start because of local traditions. But what if the World Cup goes to, say, the USA in 2026? Then the final might be at 1pm UK time for a West Coast kick-off. Suddenly, you’re back to the pajama-and-cereal days. History repeats itself.
So for now, cherish the teatime final. It’s a gift. A rare moment when the universe aligns so you can watch the biggest game of the planet unfold while the kettle boils and the roast potatoes crisp up. No midnight alarms. No awkward morning screams. Just you, the telly, and a perfectly timed slice of football heaven.
Now, go prepare the snack bowl. You’ve got about three hours.
