Let's face it, weather is usually the main culprit when it comes to game delays. The Yankees play in the northeast, where the weather can be pretty unpredictable. One minute it's sunny, the next minute it's pouring rain - you get the idea.
But, lightning is a major concern for the players and the crowd. If there's a lightning storm in the area, the game will be delayed until it passes. And, let's be real, who wants to be struck by lightning while trying to enjoy a ballgame?
Other reasons for delays might include field conditions, like a muddy infield or a drenched outfield. The grounds crew needs to make sure the field is safe and playable before the game can start. And, if the visiting team is running late, that can cause a delay too.
