She’s not alone in this no-flag limbo. Daniil Medvedev and Karen Khachanov (from Russia) do the same dance. They win millions of dollars, climb the rankings, and celebrate with... nothing. It’s a bizarre club you don’t want to join. Imagine the group chat: "What’s our anthem today? ‘Baby Shark’ again?"
The policy also applies to team events. They can’t play Davis Cup or Billie Jean King Cup as a national team. They are individual islands in a sea of nations. It’s a strange, sad solution to a global conflict, but it’s the one we have.
Will She Ever Get Her Flag Back?
Only time, international diplomacy, and a cessation of hostilities will answer that. Until then, Aryna Sabalenka will keep winning, keep laughing, and keep staring at an empty flagpole. It doesn’t seem to slow her down one bit.
So, next time you see her play, don’t ask "Where’s the flag?" Ask "Does she even need one?" The woman hits a aces so hard they leave scorch marks on the court. A flag is just a distraction. She is her own nation. And its anthem is a primal scream of victory.
