Sonia isn’t just any supporting character, is she? She’s the woman who walks into the world of Barry and Billericay and completely steals the show during the 2019 Christmas special. Remember the cringe? The awkward small talk? The way she casually reveals Gavin’s secret text messages?
Laura Aikman brought a lightning bolt of comedy to that final episode. She made us squirm, laugh, and thank our lucky stars we weren’t sitting at that Christmas table.
More Than Just a Spanner in the Works
You might be thinking Sonia was just a plot device to shake up Gavin and Stacey’s relationship. But Laura Aikman gave her layers. She made Sonia simultaneously villainous and strangely relatable—haven’t we all felt like the third wheel at a party?
Think about it: she’s the one person brave enough to call out the weird family dynamics. And Laura played that with a cheeky grin and a razor-sharp delivery. It’s a masterclass in making a side character unforgettable.
