Some funding is actually a lottery. Seriously. Like winning a prize, but the prize is slightly cheaper chaos.
In certain areas, “Childcare Sufficiency” means only 1 in 3 families get a funded spot. You apply, cross your fingers, and maybe dance a little jig. If you win? Break out the cheap bubbly. If you lose? Cry into your reusable coffee cup.
Fun fact: There’s a Facebook group called “Childcare Funding Anxiety” where parents share their lottery numbers. It’s equal parts terrifying and hilarious.
Summer Madness: Apply March, Not June
Summer holiday funding? That’s a different beast. Most holiday clubs require payment by April. Yes, three months early.
Why? Because camp directors need to buy fifty gallons of sunscreen and hire a teenager with a whistle. They don’t take “I’m still deciding” as an answer.
Mark your calendar: March 1st. After that, you’re paying full price, and your kid is eating sand at the park.
