Here’s the brutal reality: the Lions don’t have a fixed Sunday time slot. Nope. The NFL has three main windows: the 1:00 PM ET early game, the 4:00-4:25 PM ET late afternoon game, and the dreaded Sunday Night Football at 8:20 PM ET. The Lions bounce between these like a pinball in a machine.
Early season? They’re often stuck in the 1:00 PM slot. Late season? Hello, flex scheduling—that sneaky NFL rule that changes game times with two weeks’ notice. You might have planned your barbecue around a 1:00 PM start, and boom—it’s now 4:25 PM. Thanks, league office.
How to Know For Sure (Without Losing Your Mind)
Step one: Stop relying on memory. Your brain will betray you, especially after a Thursday night loss. Instead, go straight to the source: the official Detroit Lions website or the NFL schedule page. They update it faster than a kicker misses a field goal.
Step two: Set a reminder on your phone. Not a mental note—an actual alarm. Call it “Lions Game Time Check” and set it for Thursday morning. Trust me, your future self will thank you when you’re not shouting “What time?!” at your TV at 12:58 PM.
Step three: Follow Lions beat reporters on Twitter—or X, or whatever we’re calling it now. They live for this stuff. They’ll tweet the schedule changes before the NFL even sends out the press release. It’s like having a friend who actually knows where the party is.
