Here is the unvarnished truth from someone who once kept a string of icicle lights up until April (for “ambiance”). The best date is the one you can handle.
Are you hosting a New Year’s party? Leave them up for good luck and photo ops. Are you feeling the post-holiday blues? Taking them down can actually feel like a clean start.
There is a weird joy in seeing your walls without the red and green. The room breathes again. It’s boring, but it’s your boring.
So pour yourself a coffee. Look at that tired wreath. Decide if it brings you joy or just guilt.
If it’s guilt? Tear it down with the fury of a thousand gingerbread men. If it’s joy? Keep it. You rebel. Just don’t let it see February.
And remember: no matter what day you choose, someone will have an opinion. Let them. You’re the one who has to vacuum up the glitter.
