We’ve all been there. You flip the check, sign the front by accident, and suddenly it looks like a ransom note. Relax. The app will probably still accept it if it’s taped correctly, but don’t test the universe. Endorse on the back. The blank side. The side with the magnetic ink that nobody reads. If you mess up, just cross it out, initial it, and try again. Or better yet, ask for a new check. And then hide in shame for ten minutes. It’s fine. We’ve all been there.
Another pro tip: Use a black or blue pen. No gel pens, no glitter pens, no scented markers. The app’s scanner reads ink density. If you use a sparkly purple pen, the app will cry. And then so will you. Just stick with ballpoint. Trust me.
The “I swear I put it in the right account” moment
After you snap the photo, the app asks you to choose an account. This is where brains are required. Do not deposit your rent check into your Savings account by accident. Savings accounts are for dreams and interest rates. Checking accounts are for actually spending. I once deposited a check into my old closed account out of habit. The money vanished for three days. I panicked. I called customer service. The nice robot said, “Please wait 24-48 hours.” I ate anxiety soup for dinner. So, double-check the account name. It’s right there under the balance. Look at it.

And please, please, keep the check for 30 days. Do not shred it. Do not use it as a coaster. The bank might ask for it later if something glitches. Put it in a drawer next to your expired passport. You’ll thank me when the audit gremlins don’t visit.
