The Lee family are refugees from Laos, and they have a very different view of medicine and health compared to the American doctors who are trying to help Lia. It's a funny and sometimes frustrating situation, as the two cultures clash and misunderstand each other. The Lees believe that Lia's seizures are caused by a spirit that has possessed her!
The American doctors, on the other hand, are all about science and facts. They think the Lees are being superstitious and ignorant, but really, the Lees are just coming from a different perspective. It's like trying to explain a dream to someone who's never had one - it's hard to put into words! The Lees believe that Lia's seizures are a sign of her special connection to the spirit world.
