Let’s start with the car park, because that’s where every adventure begins. It’s vast, like a tarmac ocean, and you’ll always see someone driving really slowly, trying to park exactly two spaces away from anyone else. I’m convinced those drivers are just practicing for a lunar landing.
And there’s always one car parked perfectly crooked, like a drunk giraffe did the parking. You nod at the driver, they nod back, and you both know – it’s a silent pact of mutual respect for bad parking skills.
The Retail Rollercoaster
Inside, the shops are like a family reunion of your high street favorites. You’ve got your Next for pretending you’re a stylish influencer, followed by a wander into M&S for the underwear you didn’t know you needed. It’s a dangerous combination.
Then there’s the Poundland. You walk in for a single pack of bin bags, and 45 minutes later you’re holding a giant inflatable flamingo and a jigsaw puzzle of a cat. You tell yourself, “I’ll use it,” but we both know the flamingo will live in the shed forever.
My personal highlight is the Boots. It’s the only place in the UK where you can spend £50 on “just a moisturiser” and somehow feel both guilty and triumphant. The staff give you that look – the one that says, “I see your three-for-two deal, and I approve.”
