Did you know M&S was founded in 1884? That’s long before Boxing Day sales existed. The original store was a market stall in Leeds.
Imagine Michael Marks shouting, “Everything 5p!” That’s the real Boxing Day spirit. Just with more inflation and less hoop earrings.

Also, the oldest M&S store still trading is in Leeds. If you’re there, you’re shopping in a piece of history. Mind the ghosts of bargain hunters past.
What If You Miss the Opening?
Don’t panic. M&S stays open late on Boxing Day. Usually until 6:00 PM or 7:00 PM. You have time.
But be warned: the prime stock vanishes by noon. If you want the perfect pair of slippers, you need to move. Like a zombie after brains, but for flannel.
The later you go, the more you’ll find weird sizes. Extra small socks. Triple extra large polo necks. It’s a lottery of leftovers.
And don’t forget the returns. Boxing Day is prime time for people returning their “thoughtful” gifts. You can score a nearly-new cashmere jumper. Someone else’s loss is your cozy gain.
