Morrisons and Sainsbury’s are doing what they can—capping limits, reassuring us, and trying to look like the hero in a drama nobody asked for. But at the end of the day, the solution is simple: stop panic-buying.
If you really need fuel, fill up and carry on. If you don’t, maybe walk to the shops instead. Your car won’t miss you, and your thighs will thank you. And if all else fails, remember that the Government has “contingency plans.” That probably involves a man in a suit waving a clipboard and saying, “We’ve got this,” while everyone else is already on eBay buying bicycles.
So, keep calm, don’t queue for three hours just to save 50p on a litre, and maybe invest in a sturdy pair of walking shoes. The fuel panic will pass—like a bad rash or a reality TV star’s fame. And when it does, we’ll all laugh about that time we almost fought a pensioner for the last drop of unleaded.
Until then, drive safe—but maybe not too far.
