Deep down, we don’t really want the chaos of 2010. We don’t want the stranded cars, the burst pipes, or the frozen cat who refuses to come back inside. What we want is the idea of a white Christmas. You know, the one from the cards: a dusting of perfect powder on the rooftops, a crackling fire, and marshmallows in hot chocolate. The kind where you can go for a crisp walk, then come back and feel cosy without having to chip ice off your own eyebrows.
But honestly? A bit of rain on Christmas morning is a tradition in its own right. It’s British. It’s us. And that snowy December day in 2010? It was a glorious, ridiculous, wonderful exception. It gave us a story to tell, a laugh to share, and a reminder that while we might not get the perfect Hollywood Christmas, we get the real, messy, absolutely hilarious one. And that’s just fine. Slip on your coffee-stained dressing gown, look out at the grey sky, and smile. The snow will be back… probably in March.
