Your local Sainsbury’s Local is a different beast entirely. These brave convenience stores laugh in the face of tradition. They are almost always open, often with normal hours. Need milk at 11pm on Good Friday? The Local has you covered. It’s like the friend who always knows where the party is.
Sainsbury’s Extra (the massive ones with the petrol stations and the existential dread) tend to follow the reduced hours—8am to 8pm. The petrol station will likely be open 24 hours though. Because petrol pumps don’t believe in holidays. They have no soul, but they do have fuel.
I once tried to buy a watermelon on Good Friday at a big Sainsbury’s at 7:45pm. The security guard looked at me like I’d asked to marry his daughter. “We close in fifteen minutes, mate.” I learned a valuable lesson that day: reduced hours are serious business.
