Here’s the bit that gets me every year. The supermarket says “open,” but you roll up at 9 AM and find a handwritten sign taped to the door. “Closed today, sorry!” It’s happened to me, and it’s a special kind of betrayal.
The official word from Morrisons is to use their Store Finder tool online. It’s not flashy, but it’s your best friend. Plug in your postcode, and it’ll tell you the exact hours for your store.
Or, do what I did this year: ring them. I know, I know—talking on the phone is terrifying. But the automated message usually rambles off the holiday hours. Way easier than a wasted trip.
What About The Big Day Itself?
If you’re panicking about January 1st, 2026—which is a Wednesday, by the way—breathe. The pattern stays the same: 10 AM to 4 PM is the golden window. It’s like a tiny, magical portal of grocery shopping.
Pro tip: Go early. I know you’re hungover, but so is everyone else. By 2 PM, the shelves will look like a zombie apocalypse hit the bread aisle. Get in, grab your bacon, and get out.
And please, for the love of all that is holy, check the petrol station hours too. They sometimes operate on a totally different, more confusing schedule. You don’t want to run out of petrol on New Year’s Day. Trust me on that one.
