The answer is simple: security. When you're using a website with HTTPS, you can be sure that your data is protected from prying eyes. For example, when you're logging into your Instagram account, like this one, you want to make sure that your password and personal info are kept safe.
Imagine you're at a coffee shop, using their public Wi-Fi to catch up on your social media feeds. Without HTTPS, it's like sending a postcard - anyone can read what you're writing. But with HTTPS, it's like sending that secret letter again - even if someone intercepts it, they won't be able to read what's inside.
Another reason to care about HTTPS is that it's becoming the new standard for websites. In fact, Google has been prompting website owners to switch to HTTPS for a while now, and it's even started marking non-secure sites as "not secure" in its browser. So, if you want to make sure your favorite websites are keeping your data safe, look for that little lock icon.
