Slugs have soft, sensitive bellies. They will avoid anything sharp or dry. Here’s your cheap arsenal:
Diatomaceous earth—this is fossilized algae dust. To a slug, it’s like walking on broken glass. Sprinkle a line of it along baseboards and door thresholds. Reapply after cleaning. Just don’t inhale the dust; it’s not great for your lungs either.
Copper tape is fancy but works. Slugs get a tiny electric shock when they touch it. Stick it around pot legs or window frames. It’s expensive, though. I only use it for my favorite houseplants, because you know, priorities.
And there’s ground coffee—used, wet grounds. The caffeine repels them. Spread it around garden doors or in your potted plant saucers. Bonus: your house will smell like a hipster café.
