Do not use saddle soap—it’s for horses, not your couch. Do not use olive oil, baby oil, or any oil that’s not a dedicated leather conditioner. Your sofa will become a greasy, rancid-smelling mess. Do not use bleach, ammonia, or any cleaner that says “industrial strength.” That’s how you melt the finish and get a splotchy, post-apocalyptic look.
And for the love of all that is soft and squishy, keep your sofa away from direct sunlight. UV rays fade and dry leather faster than a bad joke at a wedding. Move that reading chair, or invest in UV-blocking curtains. Your sofa will thank you by not looking like a wrinkled raisin by year three.
