Open your glovebox, pray to the car gods, and locate your V5 logbook. Inside, there’s a special magic section called the “New Keeper Supplement” (V5C/2) or a separate “change of address” slip. Don’t touch the main certificate yet! You only need the removable part if you’re keeping the car. If you can’t find it, relax. You can still do everything online. No shirtless detective work required.
The Online Option (Our Hero)
This is the easiest way. Seriously, you could do it in your pajamas while eating a biscuit. Go to the GOV.UK website and search “change address on V5.” You’ll need your 11-digit reference number from the V5C, your new postcode, and the car’s registration number. That’s it. It takes about five minutes, and the DVLA will send you a shiny new logbook free of charge. New address, new logbook, new you—minus the existing weird smell from the back seat.
