So, why does Dorothy's age matter, anyway? Well, it's actually pretty cool to think about how her age affects the story and her character development. If she's younger, she's more impressionable and open to new experiences, which makes her journey in Oz even more magical. But, if she's older, she's more worldly wise and might not be as awed by the wonders of Oz.
It's also interesting to consider how Dorothy's age compares to other female protagonists in literature and film. For example, Matilda is only 5 years old when she starts at Crunchem Hall Primary School, while Katniss Everdeen is 16 years old when she volunteers for the Hunger Games. It's a fun comparison to make, and it says a lot about how female characters are portrayed in different stories.
