You might still be sipping your coffee and thinking, “Okay, cool, but I’m barely making rent.” I get it. But Chris’s story is a reminder that money is just an engine for your values. He could have bought a fleet of Lamborghinis and built a mansion shaped like a Facebook “like” button. Instead, he chose to impact how we talk about fairness, education, and opportunity.
Next time you’re scrolling through social media, remember: the guy who helped invent that little “thumbs up” button is using his billions to figure out how to make the world a little more thumbs-up for everyone. It’s like using your last $20 to buy a meal for someone else—just scaled up by a million.
So, $300 million isn’t just a number. It’s a story about a college kid who took a chance, made a dent in the universe, and then decided to spend his fortune on things that matter. And that? That’s worth caring about, even if your own wallet is still full of lint and loyalty card punch cards.
The next time you’re arguing with a friend about splitting a pizza, just think of Chris Hughes. He split a company, got a fortune, and now he’s splitting his check with the world. Not a bad way to live, if you ask me.
