Most Broadway actors don’t just do Broadway. They also do voiceovers for cartoons (making funny noises for cash), commercial auditions (selling you car insurance in 15 seconds), and regional theater tours (wearing a polyester costume in Tulsa).
Some actors even do the classic "Broadway waiter" routine. But with a twist: now they wait tables while also starring in a show. It’s the ultimate hustle. You serve a customer a burger, then go perform a dramatic monologue about the light at the end of the tunnel. It’s a lifestyle.
If you get a national tour, you often get a "per diem"—a daily allowance for food. It’s usually $60-$80 a day, which is a fun little bonus for eating gas station sushi in Ohio. Yum.
