What if the microphone is a persistent little gremlin that won’t go away? Time to dive into your settings.
On Android: Go to Settings → System → Languages & Input → On-screen keyboard → Google Voice Typing. Slide that toggle to “Off.” You’ve just grounded the gremlin.
On iPhone (if you use Gboard): Open the Gboard app, tap “Voice typing,” and turn off “Use voice typing.” Or just ignore Gboard and switch to the default Apple keyboard—no microphone drama there.
For Google Chrome on any device: Click the three dots in the top right, go to Settings → Privacy and security → Site Settings → Microphone. Block the little bugger from listening.
