And then there are the ghosts. Anne Boleyn, famously beheaded, apparently still haunts the Chapel Royal, walking around with her head tucked under her arm. It’s a bit morbid, but you’ve got to admire the commitment to dramatic entrances.

There’s also the ghost of a giant bear (yes, a bear!) that supposedly prowls the battlements. So, if you ever hear a growl while looking at the Crown Jewels, just nod politely. Every fortress needs a guard dog, right? Even if it’s a spectral one.
The Working Royalty (and a few mice)
Of course, we can’t forget the Resident Governor and his team, who keep the whole operation running. They oversee the 200+ staff members and the actual palace functions. And yes, there’s a resident cat, too—a black-and-white mouser with the perfect office title: “Chief Mouser to the Tower.”
This cat gets to roam the battlements, sleep on ancient stone floors, and chase rats that have more royal bloodlines than you. If that’s not a life goal, I don’t know what is. The Tower is truly a place where everyone has a role, from human to feline to legendary.
