No spark? The igniter might be dead. Or covered in corrosion. Or the battery (if it’s battery-powered) is flat. Batteries drain faster than you think.
Gas Fireplace Won't Light After Summer | Gas Furnace
Replace the battery. It costs two dollars. It solves 40% of “won’t light” problems. Always try the cheapest fix first. That’s life advice, not just fireplace advice.
If you see a spark but no flame, you have a gas flow issue. The gas is being blocked by a tiny particle. Or a spider. That same spider, laughing at you from inside the pipe.
Tools You Actually Need
You need a flashlight. Darkness hides the problem. Shine it into the fireplace. Look for webs, rust, or a tiny leaf that flew in through the flue.
A can of compressed air is your best friend. Use it to blast away dust. Do not use a leaf blower. You’ll launch debris into your living room and look ridiculous.
A soft brush (like a clean paintbrush) works too. Gently sweep the pilot assembly. Imagine you’re a tiny janitor for a very small, fiery room.
