This Premier Inn is literally on the Royal Mile, the spine of Edinburgh’s Old Town. Step outside, and you’re immediately hit with the smell of deep-fried Mars bars, damp wool, and history that’s been marinating for centuries. You’ll be sharing the pavement with a guy in a kilt playing “Scotland the Brave” on bagpipes—badly—while a dozen tourists take photos.
I’m pretty sure the street’s cobblestones are held together by the tears of people who couldn’t find a parking spot. The Royal Mile connects Edinburgh Castle (which sits on an extinct volcano, by the way) to the Palace of Holyroodhouse. That’s about a mile of pure, concentrated tourism, with enough gift shops selling Nessie plushies to fill a loch.
