Let’s cut to the chase because I know you’re sweating. Daryl Dixon does not die in the original series, The Walking Dead. He makes it all the way to the series finale. I know, it sounds too good to be true, right? But the writers had a serious case of “you can’t kill the fan favorite” syndrome—and for once, that worked in our favor.
He survives plane crashes, hordes of walkers, and even the bat of a certain sociopath named Negan. I’m still not over that one, are you? (Side note: If they’d killed him there, I would’ve thrown my remote through the TV.)
But What About the Spin-Offs? (Get Ready for a Twist)
Now, here’s where it gets tricky. Daryl does get his own spin-off show, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. And in that show, he is very much alive—but that doesn’t mean he’s safe. The entire premise of his spin-off is that he’s been shipped off to France, alone, in a zombie apocalypse. I mean, France? He doesn’t even speak the language!
So does he die there? As of the current seasons, no. But the showrunners have hinted at something big. They’ve said “no character is truly safe.” That’s a polite way of saying, “Don’t get too comfortable, buddy.” Honestly, I think they just like watching us sweat.
