If you hear the word “flex” near a Lions game, run. Flex scheduling is the NFL’s way of saying, “We’re moving your game to a random Tuesday at 3 AM because the Chiefs are playing the Jets in a snow globe.” The Lions get flexed a lot, usually because their game was supposed to be boring but then they started winning, and the league panicked.
Check the schedule the Friday before the game. Do not check on Saturday unless you enjoy the thrill of a last-minute change that turns your dinner party into a hostage situation. “No, Karen, the queso can wait. The lions are playing the Packers and I need to know if I should wear my lucky jersey or the one I spilled chili on.”
What Time the Lions Game Start: The Detroit Schedule for 2026
Pro tip: The NFL loves to flex Lions games into the 1:00 PM slot if they think the team will be terrible. If they’re good? Sunday Night Football, baby. That means you’re staying up until midnight and eating your own weight in despair-flavored nachos.
Wait, Is It a Home Game or Away Game?
Home games start on Detroit time, which is ET. But if they’re playing in Seattle for a 4:25 PM start, that’s a psychological warfare situation. Your brain will tell you it’s 4:25, but your stomach will know it’s actually 7:25 and you’re missing dinner. The Lions don’t care. They’ll play in a blizzard, a dome, or a parking lot. They are resilient, unlike my liver.
Surprising fact: The Lions once held a game that started at 7:30 PM in November, and it was so cold that the Gatorade froze mid-toss. The coach used it as a weapon. True story.
If you’re watching from outside the US, subtract five hours for the UK, add 13 hours for Japan, and just cry for Australia. The game will play at 3 AM, and you’ll watch it while eating cereal for dinner. That is a Lions fan’s life.
