Most perfect lasagnas have three to four layers of filling. More than that, and the middle will steam instead of bake, turning into a soggy mess. Less, and you’ll have a flat, sad brick.
End with a top layer of noodles, then cover them with a generous blanket of sauce and cheese. That top layer should be thick—it’s your golden crown. No bare noodles allowed up there.
